1.  What organisms is FrameGuard Total wood protected against?
FrameGuard Total treated wood is protected against mold, termites (including the Formosan termite), and fungal decay when used in interior applications. When coated appropriately, it can also be used for exterior trim.

2.  What wood products is the FrameGuard treatment used on?
Interior use products such as:

  • Framing & Truss Lumber
  • Plywood Panels
  • Engineered Wood Products
  • Parallel Strand Lumber
  • Laminated Veneer Lumber
     • Wood I-Beams
  • Structural Insulated Panels
When coated properly, the product can also be used for exterior trim.

FrameGuard treated wood is not intended for use as internal sill plate, or for any other application where pressure-treated wood is required.

3.   What color is wood protected with the FrameGuard treatment?
FrameGuard wood is identified by a distinctive green colorant.

4.  Do building codes govern the use of mold resistant wood?
While the model building codes currently do not require the use of mold resistant wood, green building standards may grant credits for using FrameGuard wood.

5.  Is an editable model spec available?
Yes, see spec.

6.  Is FrameGuard wood backed by a warranty?
Yes, a 20-year limited warranty applies to both FrameGuard and FrameGuard Total treated wood, and covers structural damage caused by termites. See warranty.

7.  Where can contractors get FrameGuard mold resistant wood?
Contractors can obtain FrameGuard treated wood from their suppliers of lumber and wood components.  A list of certified applicators is also provided elsewhere on this web site. See licensed producers.

8.  Is the FrameGuard treatment factory-applied, or it is applied at the job site?
To maintain a high level of performance, the FrameGuard treatment is applied only under controlled conditions, such as at truss plants, SIP plants, or other wood treating facilities, where the quality of coverage can be assured.

9.  What safety precautions should be followed when handling FrameGuard treated wood?
The same common sense precautions apply as when handling untreated wood. Dust masks and eye protection devices are recommended to avoid possible irritation from sawdust and wood chips.  Wear gloves to avoid splinters. Wash hands after doing construction work.
